The x-index: A New Bibliometric Index to Evaluate the Level of Researchers’ Papers

Abstract:

The paper proposes a new bibliometric index to quantify an individual's scientific researcher output and named as xindex. The new index considers sufficiently the number of papers (NP), the timescited (TC), and the average of a researcher. This paper has extracted 3617 records from 68 authors whose TC ranges from 1 to 462 and NP ranges from 4 to 11558 in Web of ScienceTM, and tries to analyze the sensitivity of the x-index. The results show that it is a sensitive bibliometric index and overcomes the shortcomings of most existing indices. The new index can be affected by the number of papers, the total citation times, the average of citation times and the citation times of single paper, and can evaluate the scientific output of researchers. But the biggest shortcoming of the index is that it cannot be affected by the highest cited times. The index can also be used to evaluate the level of journals.
