Abstract:

The development of modern library is closely connected with the fate of nation and social cultural changes in modern China. And the library science ideas is developed along with the progress of the social mainstream thought. The mainstream culture in modern China is divided into three historical periods, artifacts imitation, system construction, and ideological remoulding. The library science ideas are profoundly affected by different culture in different historical period. At the period of artifacts imitation, library is considered to be the place for cultural carriers storing and cultural knowledge studying. The ancient library ideas of keeping a large collection of books to promote the development of cultureand education is forming at this period. At the period of system construction, library is considered to be the propaganda for cultural ideas, the system guarantee of education and a component of educational system. The library system idea is to make the collection open to the general public and provide culture education for everyone. At the period of ideological remoulding, the function of library is highlighted, and the democratic spirit idea of library is a social institution to enlighten the public is developed.
