  • Online:2022-05-10 Published:2022-07-30

Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] This paper aims at analyzing the characteristics and influencing factors of the dissemination power of China's COVID-19 research outputs based on article altmetrics scores, and promoting the dissemination and sharing of related research. [Design/Methodology] Based on China's COVID-19 research outputs, this study firstly analyzes the characteristics of dissemination power of papers in three dimensions including dissemination heat, dissemination breadth and dissemination speed through statistical analysis and thematic analysis. After that, it discusses the influence of the number of authors, disciplines, and international cooperation on the dissemination power of the paper. [Findings/Conclusion] Main findings reveal that most papers are noticed by the public with high delay and they spread with low heat and slow speed. Specially, a small number of high heat papers spread rapidly and proliferation lasts longer. The number of authors has a limited effect on the dissemination power of papers. There are differences in the dissemination power between papers of different disciplines, which in the fields of health sciences and life sciences have higher dissemination heat and more dissemination breadth. Deeper international collaboration can help to elevate the dissemination speed of papers. [Originality/Value] The study dissects the dissemination power of China's COVID-19 research outputs from several dimensions, and explores the factors affecting the dissemination of academic outputs in the social media environment.
