Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] This paper aims to explore Tao Xingzhi's contribution to the early development of China's modern library cause, and to encourage contemporary library cause to forge ahead. [Design/Methodology] Using the method of literature research and historical research, this paper expounds Tao Xingzhi's unique views on China's modern library cause, reviews Tao Xingzhi's hosting of the preparation of the education library of the China Education Improvement Society, his participation in the establishment of the China Library Association by leaders, and the establishment of short-term training courses for library science, further more we recalls the history that Tao Xingzhi established a library that catered to civilian education and assisted school education, and he enriched the history of library development models and practical paths for popularizing education. [Findings/Conclusion] In this study, Tao Xingzhi's pioneering contribution to the development of China's modern library cause is fully affirmed.His experience in promoting the development of the library cause enlightens us that we should adhere to the people's position and run a library that satisfies the people; pay attention to ethnic characteristics and operate a library that promotes excellent traditional culture; emphasize the integration of culture and education, and run a library that promotes collaborative education between libraries and schools; serve rural construction and run libraries that contribute to rural revitalization. [Originality/Value] This study excavates the historical data of Tao Xingzhi's contribution to China's modern library cause, and takes history as a mirror to promote the development of contemporary library cause.
