A Review of Research on Researchers’ Cognitive and Behavior in Open Access Publishing

Abstract:

Researchers’ cognitive and acceptance of Open Access (OA) publishing is very important to its sustainable development. The current research in home and abroad showed that researchers’ cognitive and participation of OA publishing have been improving gradually. Due to the effect of preprint culture, the development speed of different disciplines and so on, there are differences among researchers from different disciplines in their attitude and acceptance of OA publishing, preferred OA publishing channel. Researchers generally recognize that OA publishing has faster publication speed, offers higher visibility, has a larger readership and impact, but researchers’ approval of OA publishing is inconsistent with their willingness to take action. The influence from colleagues and research evaluation policy, the high publishing fees, doubt about the quality control and copyright protection impede researchers’ acceptance and participation in OA publishing. There are some problems that need to be further studied in current research, including lacking ongoing survey on the same sample, insufficient use of existing research findings, paucity research on researchers’ publishing experience, the subject of domestic research is single.
