On the Library’s Contribution to the Inheritance of Chinese Culture During the First Half of the Twentieth Century

  

Abstract:

Encountered an unprecedented crisis, the inheritance of Chinese traditional culture becomes a deep theme of ethnic and national fate since the late Qing Dynasty. During first half of the 20th century library holding paying equal attention to both Chinese and western cultural ideas, committed to the protection and dissemination of Chinese culture, mainly reflected in three aspects, the first is the collection of ancient books; the second is to collect woodblocks, circulated engraving printing technology; the third is to print rare books and benefit the academic. The library’s contribution in ancient books collection, woodblocks protection and ancient books publication during first half of the 20th century, has provided the precious cultural resources for the continuation and development of Chinese culture, and make it become the modern center of Chinese cultural heritage.
