Domestic and International Research Progress and Trends in Library and Information Science Education:2010-2014

Abstract:

Since the official establishment of iSchools from 2005, library and information science (LIS) education is undergoing a period of new reforms and becomes a focus for all domestic and international LIS professors. This paper firstly reviews the development of LIS educational idea.Then focused on new challenges and needs requested by the background of Big Data and information technology, this paper also investigates and analyses the current state and development trends of LIS education in recent five years. The results indicate that the studies mainly centered on the aspects such as curriculum reform, teaching methods transformation and education objects diversity. Empirical methods are widely used, and research topics are various. With the deeper development of iSchools movement, the LIS education in China should emphasize the multidisciplinary and international collaboration and pay attention to the relationshipsbetween people, information and technologies, accelerating the construction of international first-class disciplinary.
