Abstract:

Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) is a new form for the graduate education of library science and information science. The author discusses several issues in MLIS education by referring to a series of surveys on MLIS education and combining his own practice in supervising related to MLIS graduates. The main topics include: the connection between MLIS education and professional career relate to library and information, the differentiation in training scheme between professional master degree and academic degree, the organization of MLIS graduates with various backgrounds, the mechanism of joint cultivation, and the process management of practice education. Several suggestions are proposed for the above topics.
