Abstract:

Crowdfunding is a newly rising model of funding, and its applicable areas have been expanding in recently years. However, few libraries at home and abroad have used this method in information resources development. Thus, practical cases are still insufficient. By analysis of crowdfunding definition, literatures and cases, this paper introduced the concept of crowdfunding into printed books purchase and circulation business. Then a model of users' participation in collection building was proposed. This model is built on Internet, which provides users an easy way to participate in the development of collection. It is also beneficial to reduce the cost of libraries and participants, meet users' multiple demands for instant reading, expand libraries' collection, reduce the financial pressure for libraries, and enhance the reading promotion as well. Moreover, it is also a good supplementation to the former models, such as readers' recommendation, PDA, the activity of  "If you read, I will pay for it" and so on.
