The Setting, Development and Evolution of Archives Course at Boone Library School From 1934 to 1953

Abstract: [Purpose/Significance]Boone Library School is the cradle of archival education in modern China, and the curriculum setting is the core component of archival education, which carries the main contents. Exploring its curriculum can deepen the understanding of archival education in modern China.[Design/Methodology]By taking time as the outline, with the use of literature review and qualitative analysis method, this paper systematically sort out the characteristics of the archival curriculum of Boone Library School at three different stages and various educational levels. [Findings/Conclusion]The curriculum system of archival science was characterized as evolving from simplification to systematization, focusing on current files management, drawing on experience from the West, emphasizing both theory and practice, integration of education and research, multidisciplinary knowledge and multilingual foundation. The archival education of Boone Library School possesses a significant position in the history of archival education and the development of archival undertaking in China.[Originality/Value]The developing trajectory of archival education in Boone Library School has been tracked with the combination of curriculum, concrete time, and people.
