Abstract: [Purpose/Significance]Taking college student learning-oriented teams as examples, this paper aims to explore the motivations, characteristics, behaviors and impact factors of teams’ collaborative information seeking (CIS), which also intends to develop a theoretical model to describe it. It could enrich the research on collaborative information seeking behavior, and provide empirical evidence to support the development and design of collaborative information searching system.[Design/Methodology]Based upon literature review, this paper built a primary theoretical framework for teams’ collaborative information seeking behavior, and conducted a survey according to the framework. Then a model of college student learning-oriented teams’ collaborative information seeking behavior was developed.[Findings/Conclusion]The model describes the characteristics of motivations, seeking subjects and seeking process. It also reveals the interactive influence of information seeking, information communication, and information evaluation, which represents a dynamic and nonlinear collaborative information seeking process.[Originality/Value]This study illustrates the process, paths and influential factors of collaborative information seeking in the context of learning for college student teams.
