Public Cognition and Evaluation of Scientific Research Integrity in Social Media Environment: A Case Study of Q&A Community Zhihu

Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] Scientific research integrity is the cornerstone of technological innovation and social progress, and its governance requires the participation of all sectors of society. Analysis of public cognition and evaluation of scientific research integrity is helpful to more comprehensively understand their attitudes and views on academic misconduct. [Design/Methodology] Taking the Zhihu platform as an example, using methods such as co-word analysis and text sentiment classification, this paper explores public cognition and evaluation of research integrity issues in the social media environment. [Findings/Conclusion] Public cognition and evaluation of scientific research integrity in the social media environment has the following characteristics: the content of the comments is single, and the awareness of research integrity is insufficient; the value tone is positive, and the scientific research personnel are affirmed and trusted; the society pays high attention to research misconduct and holds a negative and critical attitude. Based on the research results, the study  further puts forward the enlightenment of research integrity governance and construction from the perspective of the public. [Originality/Value] From the perspective of the public, this paper summarizes the characteristics of their cognition and evaluation of research integrity and put forward suggestions, so as to provide references for the comprehensive construction and development of research integrity in China.
