Information Equity Since the 21st Century: Evolution, Structure and Prospect

Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] As an indispensable part of social equity, information equity has attracted extensive attention from academia.The primary objective of this article is to systematically review and analyze relevant literature in such a field,which is of reference significance for further research. [Design/Methodology] In this study , Web of Science,CSSCI journals in CNKI data base are used as the data source, relevant articles are collected from 2000 to the present,a systematic literature review method is adopted to analyze from four dimensions: concept,research object, influencing factors and measures. Meanwhile,a structural framework of the relevant dimensions is constructed. [Findings/Conclusion] The results indicate that the research on information equity in China is mainly concentrated in LIS discipline, and the information institutions(such as public libraries)are the majority of the research objects. Related research abroad involves a relatively broad range of disciplines and focuses on the diversity of objects.Thefactors that affect information equity include the structural imbalance of resources, the differentiation of subject's information capability, and the constraints of information practice context. Corresponding measures are embodied in the general supply of information resources, the empowerment of information capability, the regulations of law and morality, etc. [Originality/Value] A holistic structural framework for the study of information equity is constructed, which is contributed to reveal the advances, shortcomings and future orientations in the field of information equity research.
