Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] In the context of the New Era, the spatial texture of urban public cultural space is one of the basic carrier for the realization of good life. Studying the spatial texture of urban public cultural space is helpful to respond to people's higher and newer pursuit of life quality and life aesthetics. [Design/Methodology] Taking"Heart of Yangtze Civilization" in Wuhan as a case, this paper deconstructed the macro layout and micro perception of its spatial texture using a mixed method combining of quantitative analysis of geographic location data with semi-structured interviews. [Findings/Conclusion] The optimization of public cultural space and people's demand for a good life have achieved value unity in terms of subjectivity, accessibility and publicity. Although there are differences in the specific functions of public cultural space and people have different perceptions of these specific functions of space, their demands for texture elements, spatial aesthetics and landscape are highly consistent; and the quality and connotation of public life can be improved by means of space promotion based on the CDTA(Center-Direction-Transition-Area)model. [Originality/value] The CDTA model is innovatively used into the deconstruction of public cultural space, and the response of the creation of public cultural space to the public's needs for a better life is analyzed from the three levels of "material-spirit", "demand-supply" and "macro and micro".
