Empirical Research on Indictors for Journal Assessment

Abstract:

Together with the impact factor , EigenfactorTMscore、Article InfluenceTMscore 、5-year impact factor、immediacy factor、SCImago Journal Rank indicator, Source normalized impact per paper and the journal h-index of 260 journals listed in the title of immunology and bioinformatics in F1000 are collected. And then, correlation test 、cluster analysis and factor analysis are used. Results show that although those indicators are calculated with different methods and even use different databases, they are strongly correlated with the WoS IF and among each other. It indicates the feasibility of using free alternatives to the Web of Science for evaluating scientific journals. The article discusses the indicators in combination with the evolution of journal evaluation, and points out the trend of journal assessment through the analysis of strengths and weaknesses of those indicators.
