Abstract:

\[Purpose/Significance\] The exploration of the book classification localization during the period of the Republic of China is intended to provide reference for modern book classification. \[Design/Methodolog\] Using comparative method, this paper compares the practice of Gui Zhibai’ s book classification in the earlier and later periods. \[Findings/Conclusion\] Gui Zhibai’ s "trilogy" on localization of book classification consists of three steps, including firstly compiling practice of Dewey decimal classification at Qilu University, and secondly conducting theoretical research in his doctoral dissertation at the university of Chicago, and thirdly promoting National Central University Library Classification Encydopedia, which takes the leap from practice to theory and from theory back to practice again. He has made great contribution to the localization of library science in China. \[Originality/Value\] Combining the research of Gui Zhibai’ s doctoral thesis with his specific classification practice, we found out a clear framework for the localization of Gui Zhibai’ s book classification.
