Abstract:
By applying theories of stereotype forming and correction, and factors derived from the previous study on librarians’ stereotype, we can analyze the underlying reasons of differentiated attitudes towards librarians of groups. Our research results indicate that: (1) Primary reason for library work stereotype is the profession’s social status; (2) Personal experience influences librarians’ stereotype much, which indicates that we should improve the professionalism of librarianship; (3) Library science education cultivates successfully of students’ critical judgment of the library practice; however it also made students feel strongly about the big divide between library practice and ideal library service; (4) Interout Group Bias can partially explain the group differences of librarians’ stereotype; (5) Librarians in southeast coastal region and northeast region,and librarians from digital department are subgroup of the profession; (6) Different characters can be corrected differently; (7) Bookkeeping Model and Alteration Model can help to improve the images of librarians.
