Abstract:

The purpose of this paper is to study the current trends in library instruction and information literacy in higher education. By means of literature analysis and case studies, the new framework for information literacy for higher education and highimpact educational practices are discussed, and then their impacts on library instruction and educational reform are analyzed. The results of the research show that the framework for information literacy for higher education has brought about the essential transformation of “big ideas” for the information literacy instruction programs; the university libraries should provide more opportunities to support highimpact educational practices in order to promote students' deep learning and academic success. Finally, this paper provides the basic strategies and recommendations for the implementation of the framework for information literacy for higher education, and a detailed example of the UNCG University libraries’ support of highimpact practices is introduced.
