A Review on Studies of Health Information Service of Foreign Public Libraries

Abstract:

With users' increasingly diversified demands of health information, providing health information service has become a trend for public libraries. By using content analysis, this paper studied the research papers of health information service of foreign public libraries. Based on the literature collection, statistics and coding, this paper analyzed theories and methodologies that were used in the researches. Then a research framework was built by combining the inducement factors, health information service provision and its effectiveness. This paper explored the status of health information service provided by foreign public libraries from the types of users and information demands, perceived services, service roles, service modes, influencing factors and the evaluation of service effectiveness. With content analysis, it is indicated that the number of literature is increasing rapidly, the hybrid research method is prominent, few research theories have been used, and the research topics are decentralized. Research is prone to be crossdisciplinary, theoretically innovative and methodologically diversified in the future.
