Analysis and Enlightenment of Public Libraries’ Cultural Poverty Alleviation Projects in New York

Abstract: [Purpose/Significance]Public libraries in New York of the United States actively participate in cultural poverty alleviation and they have good performance. Their practical experience provides reference value to China.[Design/Methodology]Literature research and website investigations were implemented to analyze the four typical cultural poverty alleviation projects of public libraries in the New York area. [Findings/Conclusion]Four inspirations have been concluded, which include strengthening the precise identification of different poverty groups and providing humanized extension services, providing broadband support to those the Internet is unavailable to in poverty-stricken regions, developing library apps and subdividing digital resources in order to provide personalized digital cultural services, attaching importance to exchanges and cooperation with other public cultural institutions and promoting library services actively.[Originality/Value]By summarizing the features of cultural poverty alleviation projects of public libraries in New York, and combining with the real situation in China, this research could provide new ideas for Chinese public libraries in cultural poverty alleviation.
