Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] Academic social networks realize the integration of academic resources and social media. They also satisfy the scholars’needs of socialized research interaction. A comprehensive review of the research progress in this field will be helpful for revealing the status and trends of academic social network research more profoundly, and providing support for subsequent research. [Design/Methodology] On the basis of reorganizing and clearly defining the concept of academic social networks, by gathering, reading, and sorting out 292 domestic and international research literatures on academic social networks, the research contents were summarized and the research progress was revealed. [Findings/Conclusion] Relevant studies are mainly conducted from the perspective of presenting the subject(platforms)and the service object(users). The studies of platforms mainly focus on basic function integration and comparison, special recommendation functions and systems, functional metrics and their effectiveness for evaluation, and the impacts on relevant academic activities. The studies of users include user motivation and influencing factors, basic participation levels and their differences, deep utilization and social interaction. The exploration of metrics application, platform comparison, user group comparison, and behavior patterns needs to be furthered. [Originality/Value] This paper reviews the domestic and international research progress of academic social networks from the aspects of platform function integration and users’social interaction behavior, and provides targeted reference and follow-up research suggestions for platform optimization and user experience improvement.
