"Chinese Model" of Beijing Olympic Archives Management

Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] This paper laborates the "Chinese model" of Beijing Olympic archives management and analyzes the innovative concepts, experiences and methods applied in the management ,which provides a "benchmark" for the archives management in the other major events and future Olympic Games. [Design/Methodology] The official Olympic documents and the literatures of national social development and Beijing Olympic archives management,are collected the demands for Olympic archives management are interpreted, and the "Chinese model" of Beijing Olympic archives management is finally sorted out from four dimensions: governance system, resource system, utilization system and security system. [Findings/Conclusion] The findings reveal that the "Chinese model" of Beijing Olympic archives management is a rationalized, systematic and mature synthesis of the Olympic archives management experience,which is also the result of the combined efforts of the International Olympic Committee, the Olympic host country and city, and the archival profession. [Originality/Value] The "Chinese model" of Beijing Olympic archives management has universal and worldwide enlightenment. Firstly, for the archives management of other major events, a "legacy view" should be bulit to clarify the relationship between archival rights and responsibilities in the form of contract and the management and transmission of archives knowledge should be paid attention to.Moreover for the future Olympic archives management, "archives management" should be included in the framework of Olympic legacy to expand the life cycle of Olympic archives and emphasize the positive interaction between Olympic archives and Olympic cities.
