Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] Title is crucial in the process of knowledge dissemination in academic papers. An accurate and concise title can meanwhile reflect the depth of the author's research ideas and the research content of the paper. Due to the increasingly frequent use of particular title styles, this paper analyzes the impact of the styles of frequent words of "based on" or "considered" in paper titles on the number of citations. [Design/Methodology] Firstly, we constructed four independent variables based on whether the title contains "based on" or "considered" and where it appears in the title. Secondly, on the basis of considering multiple factors affecting the number of citations of papers, we designed the benchmark model for regression analysis of the number of citations and using negative binomial regression to fit the sample data. Finally, we conducted an empirical analysis of 42,594 academic papers published in Chinese journals of FMS Recommended List of High-Quality Journals in Management Science 2022 from 2018 to 2021. [Findings/Conclusion] The statistical analysis results show that, in the field of management science, the title styles that contain "based on" or "considered" have become a mainstream. Among 42,594 Chinese academic papers, 12,372 articles are of this title style, accounting for 29.05% of the total number of papers. The empirical results show that, first, the "based on" or "considered" style in the title has a significant negative effect on the citations of the paper in the field of management science. Second, papers are less likely to be cited when the "based on" or "considered" styles appear at the beginning of the paper title. Third, the impact of the specific style of "based on" or "considered" in the title on article citation varies depending on the different disciplines field. [Originality/Value] This study verifies the effect of a particular title style, "based on" or "considered", on the citation of the article through an econometric model.
