Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] Addressing the prevailing challenge that the semantic organization of scientific papers is often inadequately align with users' reading habits and needs, this paper intends to explore a novel semantic modeling and organization framework tailored for scientific literature. [Design/Methodology] Grounded in the design science paradigm and utilizing a hybrid research methodology, this study initially investigates user behavior through the card sorting method to explore the utilization of functional units within scientific papers, which lead to the identification of the usage patterns of these functional units across various reading tasks. Furthermore, it developes a semantic annotation and organization model specifically for these functional units in scientific papers tailored to specific reading tasks, and conducts experimental evaluations of this semantic organization. [Findings/Conclusion] We identify six distinct usage patterns of functional unit in scientific papers across reading tasks and introduce a user-centric method for organizing these units that aligns with users' read habits. [Originality/Value] This study innovatively integrates design science principles with hybrid research methods to propose a user-oriented semantic organization framework for scientific papers, enhancing alignment with readers' habits and preferences.
