数字人文类公众科学项目持续发展阶段的公众参与动因探索——基于盛宣怀档案抄录案例的扎根分析

Exploring Participants’ Motivations in Sustained Stage of Citizen Science Projects in Digital Humanities Domain: A Case Study on Transcribe Sheng

摘要:

数字人文类公众科学项目因其专业性强、复杂度高、样本量大等特点,对志愿者的能力、技巧和精力投入提出了更高的要求。这种情况下,充分了解志愿者的参与动因是维持项目持续发展的必要前提。文章以盛宣怀档案抄录项目作为案例,选择该项目的志愿者作为访谈对象,尝试运用扎根理论分析法探索影响志愿者持续参与意愿的动机因素。研究得到32个初始概念、14个范畴及其对应的外部动因、认知价值、情感感知和任务驱动4个主范畴,在此基础上构建出持续发展阶段的公众参与动因模型,并提出相应的激励对策。研究结果对数字人文类公众科学项目中志愿者的持续参与动因提供了理论支持,对维系志愿者的参与热情提供了激励对策与思路。

Abstract:

Due to the characteristics of its professionalism, complexity and large sample size, citizen science projects in the Digital Humanities domain have higher requirements on volunteers' abilities, skills and input efforts. Accordingly, it is essential to fully understand volunteers' motivation to participate in the sustainable development of the projects. This paper adopts the Transcribe Sheng project as a case, in which the project volunteers have been selected as interviewees, and grounded theory has been employed to explore the factors affecting volunteers' continuous intention to participate in the projects. We identified 32 initial concepts, 14 categories and corresponding 4 main categories, namely external motivation, cognitive value, emotional perception and task driving. On this basis, a conceptual model on sustained participation motivation of citizen science projects in digital humanities domain has been proposed, and corresponding incentive strategies also have been put forward. The research findings will provide theoretical contribution for volunteers' continuous participation motivation in citizen science projects in Digital Humanities, and yield some implication for the incentive design and maintenance of volunteers.
