Data Literacy Education: Expansion of Information Literacy Instruction in the Big Data Era

  

Abstract:

This paper firstly discusses the origin and development of the concept of data literacy and consider that data literacy is one of the expansion of information literacy, which is also people’s essential literacy in the big data era, the education to be carried out. Next, study the teaching content according to the characteristics of data literacy, found that has been wide range, more subjects have been involved, and has attracted the attention of world famous Library and Information Institutions. Then, from the perspective of teaching subject, study that in universities and society, different institutions could provide quality data literacy instruction. Furthermore, based on the imparity of audiences of data literacy instruction, we classifies that and consider that in today's society most individuals from different industries and professionals require data literacy instruction. Finally, combined with the opened courses of data literacy in other countries like UK and US, argue that the teaching form of data literacy can be diversified including degree course, credit course, shortterm training and so on.
