Abstract:

Knowledge organization has always been an important subject in the field of Library and information science. With the advent of big data era, lots of researchers are committed to study on knowledge organization for continuous breakthrough and development in order to satisfy the need of knowledge query and access effectively. In order to reveal the status quo and progress of knowledge organization at home and abroad, a Chinese journal Library and Information Service and an international journal Knowledge Organization were respectively selected as the objects of this review study. All articles published in each journal between 2009 and 2016 were analyzed by bibliometric analysis and comparative analysis from the perspectives of knowledge producer on individual level, knowledge base and research topic. Research results showed that computer science and knowledge management are both important disciplinary bases of domestic knowledge organization research, which correspondingly give rise to technologyoriented and managementoriented research branches. While international researchers focus closely on the related topics in knowledge organization, especially on the traditional knowledge organization tools, methods and techniques as well as their applications in different environments with different languages, various types of resources or different domains. At the same time, a great deal of attention was paid to explore the nature of organized objects and discuss the philosophical and theoretical basis of knowledge organization from social culture, ethics and philosophy. This study is aimed at helping domestic researchers to clearly understand and define the connotation and scope of knowledge organization so as to grasp the future research direction better.
