Abstract: ［Purpose/Significance］This article aims to explore the development and research status of semantic network, and also analyze the concept, classification, technology and advantage in order to direct future research.［Design/Methodology］With the method of systematic literature review, high-quality papers on the topic of semantic networks in the field of information science were collected. After the automatic and manual retrieval, 106 articles were chosen to be reviewed and compiled.［Findings/Conclusion］In this paper, the origin of semantic network theory has been traced,   the concepts of semantic network, semantic web and knowledge map have been differentiated and analyzed. Additionally, the potential advantages of semantic network and the restrictions on further research have been explored.［Originality/Value］It could provide reference and support for researchers of information science and practitioners in related areas.
