Abstract: [Purpose/Significance]Health scientific data has been effectively utilized during its management and practices in foreign countries, which promotes the development of open science. Exploration of their practices can provide reference and enlightenment for the health scientific data management in China.[Design/Methodology]Based on the capability maturity model for scientific data management and the life cycle of health scientific data, this paper built a framework for health scientific data management. It also analyzed the practices of health scientific data management abroad from the perspectives of plans, collection and evaluation, organization and preservation, sharing and reuse.[Findings/Conclusion]Submitting health scientific data management plan is an essential part for research programs in science foundations, research institutions and libraries. Additionally, data security guarantee has been an important issue for health scientific data management abroad. Based on the successful experience of foreign countries, suggestions on health scientific data management in China have been proposed, including strengthening the management of science foundations and research institutions, establishing a perfect data selection and evaluation system, establishing data warehouse based on local and university libraries, as well as balancing the relationship between data sharing and security.[Originality/Value]The capability maturity model of scientific data management was introduced into health informatics, which could make up for the lack of research on theories and practices of health scientific data management in library and information science.
