Abstract: [Purpose/Significance]This paper aims to discuss the development trajectory and evolution features of computational archival science and analyze the profound influence of the new round of scientific and industrial revolution on archival science development.[Design/Methodology]With the method of literature research, this paper summarized and analyzed the development and evolution of computational archival science from three dimensions: proposed background, conceptual evolution and development features. It also and prospected the future development.[Findings/Conclusion]Computational archival science is a transdisciplinary field of computational science and archival science, which is initiated by the change of information technology, the shift of research object, and the transformation of research paradigm. Due to the joint promotion of transdisciplinary academic communities, computational archival science emphasizes the integration of computational and archival theories, methods and resources. It is also built upon the mapping of archival concepts and computational methods. It explores the broad landscape of archival management and service, while the core topics and fields are gradually concentrated. And its talent cultivation focuses on the computational thinking training. In the future, the development of computational archival science will present characteristics of "fields’ deep integration", "domain extension" and "theoretical innovation".[Originality/Value]This paper could provide experience and inspiration for the transdisciplinary integration development of archival science along with other disciplines in China and promote the formation of synergy on the active transformation of archival science.
