Platform Information Manipulation and Its Effects Based on Interaction Design: A Case Study of Trending Topics

摘要: [目的/意义]平台企业利用资源条件进行信息操纵现象已引起国际的广泛关注,隐藏于交互设计之下的信息操纵影响广泛。开展交互设计信息操纵效应验证,能够为制定我国平台治理策略提供支撑。[研究设计/方法]界定信息操纵概念并梳理基于交互设计的信息操纵策略类型,而后以某平台热搜榜基于“标识”设计的信息操纵为对象,引入用以拟合社交网络扩散行为的LIM模型,采用非参数方法建模,证明不合规标识个案存在热度异常现象,多个案对比分析证明热度异常是不合规标识影响所致,验证信息操纵效果。[结论/发现]验证了基于交互设计的信息操纵的存在,对预期趋势和实际结果的进一步模型拟合表明操纵的后续效应,对比实验分析说明了基于交互设计的信息操纵可能是平台话题热度异常背后的原因所在。[创新/价值]梳理信息操纵概念及基于交互设计的信息操纵策略类型,分析信息操纵策略及其效应,提供了基于交互设计的信息操纵影响用户行为的实证依据,为推进负责任平台建设、政府网络治理、相关学术研究提供参照。

Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] The phenomenon of information manipulation by platform enterprises utilizing their information resource provided by interaction design is widespread, having attracted extensive international attention. The validation of the impact of interaction design information manipulation can offer valuable insights for the formulation of platform governance strategies in China. [Design/Methodology] This paper defines the concept of information manipulation and categorizes the types of information manipulation strategies through interaction design. Then, taking the information manipulation phenomenon based on the design of "mark" on the trending topics of platform as the object, it introduces the Linear Influence Model to fit the diffusion behavior of social network, and adopts non-parametric method to demonstrate heat anomalies in the case of non-compliant marks. Forther more, it compares and analyzes multiple cases to confirm that heat anomalies are due to the influence of non-compliant marks, thus validating the effectiveness of the information manipulation. [Findings/Conclusion] The presence of information manipulation strategies through interaction design has been confirmed, the results of model simulation for expected trends and actual results indicate the subsequent impact of information manipulation, and comparative experimental analyses illustrate that information manipulation based on the interaction design may be responsible for the platform's topic heat anomalies. [Originality/Value] This paper provides a comprehensive review of the concept of information manipulation and various strategies for information manipulation through interaction design, and quantitatively analyzes the impact of these strategies. The empirical evidence that information manipulation through interaction design significantly influences users' behaviors provied in this paper offers valuable insights for promoting responsible platform development, government network governance, and related academic research.
