Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] Methodological awareness plays a pivotal role in scholars' understanding of research problems and the selection of problem solution strategies. Investigating the practical application of methodological awareness and the integrity of these problem solution pathways can provide valuable insights for advancing research methods and ensuring the reliability of results in the field. [Design/Methodology] Taking "based on-type" literature published in LIS journals included in CSSCI as the study cases, this study uses the object terms in the titles to represent methodological awareness. By examining the knowledge entities and their combinations in the abstracts, it instantiates the methodological awareness and characterizes the problem solution paths. Through an analysis of object term types, the study identifies the factors driving methodological awareness and further explores the coherence and completeness of research problem solution strategies. [Findings/Conclusion] The research in LIS is predominantly characterized by a methodological awareness focused on technology-driven and data-driven approaches. However, the absence of datasets and knowledge entities of methodology is still quite common. The influence of interdisciplinary approaches on theoretical models and research methods is substantial, and there is a need to strengthen the innovation within the original discipline itself. At the same time, research in LIS shows the combination effect between methodological awareness and problem solution strategies is not satisfactory. [Originality/Value] These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of problem-solving choices in LIS research design and have implications for enhancing the quality of future research.
