Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] This article aims to explore the current situation and characteristics of AI empowering scientific research, and provide guidance for promoting the responsible use of AI systems in scientific research scenarios and facilitating efficient empowerment of scientific innovation. [Design/Methodology] Through multi-source data collection, including academic paper texts, research reports released by academic publishing institutions, and semi-structured interview materials, qualitative analysis and systematically exploration were conducted using content analysis methods, with a focus on the current status, cognitive attitudes, and future prospects of researchers' application of AI systems in scientific research. [Findings/Conclusion] At present, researchers' application of AI systems has covered the entire life cycle of research, and they have a clear understanding of the impact and obstacles of AI systems in scientific research applications. Moreover, this article has further envisioned the development prospects of AI systems empowering research from three aspects: expanding the application scenarios of AI systems, establishing a human-intelligence collaborative research model, and constructing a responsible application framework for AI systems. [Originality/Value] This study reveals the current situation of AI empowering research, and further explores the issue of researchers' dishonest disclosure of their use of AI and the influencing factors, providing insights for optimizing intelligent research practices and promoting the responsible use of AI in research.
