"Data Elements x Publishing": Moving from Digital Publishing to Data Publishing

Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] With data becoming a key factor of production, data publishing, an innovative form of convergent publishing, is now also emerging. This paper aims to focus on "data elements×publishing" and clarify its logical starting point, evolution mechanism and practical paths. [Design/Methodology] In accordance with the research idea of "logical starting point–evolution mechanism–practical path", we propose a comprehensive framework for categorizing publishing data into four types: content data, user data, interactive data, and governance data, furthermore, classifying publishing data into three levels: core publishing data, important publishing data, and general publishing data. It reveals the evolution mechanism underpinning digital intelligence infrastructure, resources, platforms, personnel and system, thereby clarifying the four-dimensional paths of the construction of publishing data. [Findings/Conclusion] The successful promoting the "data elements×publishing" should be grounded in a clear classification and grading of publishing data, follow to the evolution mechanism of digital intellectualization and innovate the four-dimensional paths of publishing data thinking, element supply, product research and development, as well as circulation transactions. [Originality/Value] This article proposes a classification and stratified framework for publishing data, and delves into exploration of the mechanism underlying the digital intelligence transformation in the publishing sectors, so as to promote the exploration and value realization of publishing data elements, foster the incubation of novel data publishing paradigms, and advance of the profound integration and development of the publishing industry.
