The protection of personal privacy in research data is an inevitable requirement in the process of research data sharing. This paper, by website research, combs research data privacy policies of UK’s and Australia’s two types of institutions; namely, research funding agencies and research institutions, compares the similarities and differences of UK’s and Australia’s two types of institutions’ policies by using comparative analysis, and summarizes the characteristics of UK’s and Australia’s two types of institutions’ policies by using text analysis. The privacy protection policies in the process of data sharing in the UK and Australia have six characteristics: to clarify the scope of protection, to have general protection principles, to comply with relevant data protection policies and ethics, to propose a variety of protection methods, to determine the accountability mechanism, and to have unique provisions.
