[Purpose/Significance] This study explores the underlying conditions for older adults' use of social media to optimize their well-beings and empirically examines the impact of short video watching on older adults' mental health for policy implication. [Design/Methodology] Drawing on relevant theories from information sociology, communication psychology, and economics, we first proposed an analytical framework and research hypotheses based on the perspective of compensation-selective optimization theory, and then empirically examined the impacts of short video platform use on the levels of depression and happiness of older adults aged 60 and above with a nationally representative data in 2020. Our aim was to investigate the effective mediators of short video viewing behavior that integrates optimal compensatory selection for health and social needs in reducing physical and psychological social isolation among the elderly. [Findings/Conclusion] Evidence show that short video watching behavior is not significantly and directly associated with depressive symptoms or happiness among older adults, however can significantly affect health behaviors and social connectedness. Health behaviors and social connectedness both have a direct predictive impact on reducing the level of depression in the elderly and also play significant positive mediating roles in the correlation between short-video viewing and older adults' mental health. Importantly, there exists a nonlinear relationship between times spent on internet and mental health of the elderly. The positive mediating effect of health behavior would disappear if one uses Internet over 5 hours. [Originality/Value] This study innovatively analyzes impacts of rational and irrational new media platform use through a compensatory selective optimization theoretical perspective and examines mediating effects of reducing physical and mental isolation in the relationship of short video watching and mental health.

[Purpose/Significance] The copyright risks of generative artificial intelligence(AI)training data have currently drawn widespread attention. It is necessary to propose a copyright compliance scheme based on an in-depth analysis of specific risks to provide guidance for relevant obligated subjects. [Design/Methodology] Based on China's copyright-related system, following the judgment process of "whether it falls within the scope of copyright control - whether it constitutes fair use", this paper analyzes the usage behaviors and copyright risks across the stages of data input, model training and content output. [Findings/Conclusion] The finding indicates that there is no risk of copyright infringement during the model training stage. However, the data input stage carries risks related to infringement of the right of reproduction. During the content output stage, there are risks of infringement of the rights of reproduction, adaptation, integrity protection, information network dissemination and broadcasting. Therefore, the service providers who also act as model trainers must develop copyright compliance schemes for both works in the public domain and within the copyright protection period. Pure service providers need to prevent the continuation of risks during the model development stage and ensure copyright compliance during the service provision stage. [Originality/Value] This paper analyzes the copyright risks of associated with generative artificial intelligence training data in detail, and proposes some solutions for ensuring copyright compliance, providing copyright compliance guidance for enterprises and institutions to carry out model training and deliver external service activities.

[Purpose/Significance] This study explores the strategies through which Chinese academic papers influence international policy-making, aiming to provide insights for enhancing China's role in global policy governance. [Design/Methodology] Drawing on Lasswell's "5W" model of communication, this study constructs a theoretical framework for examining the impact of scientific research on policy-making. Using Chinese academic papers cited in policy documents released by United Nations as research samples, the analysis delves into the characteristics from three key perspectives: the producing entities, research content, and dissemination carriers. [Findings/Conclusion] Regarding producing entities, a significant proportion of the sample papers set are produced by non-university institutions, with notable collaboration between Chinese and international institutions. In terms of research content, the distribution of disciplines and sub-themes in the sample papers show a strong demand orientation. As for dissemination carriers, papers published in top international academic journals and those focused on addressing real-world problems and providing policy support are more likely to influence policy-making. However, Chinese institutions have limited publications in high-policy-visibility journals. [Originality/Value] This study constructs a "5W" analytical framework for examining the impact of scientific research on policy-making and conducts an empirical analysis. It offers three recommendations: matching institutional characteristics with policy service goals, leveraging the power of journals to enhance the visibility of research results in the policy arena, and strengthening the cultivation of collaboration with major international institutions and the involvement opportunities of Chinese scholars in these institutions.
