Abstract: ［Purpose/Significance］Library reading promotion(LRP) has become one of the most active and influential fields of library science theories in China. Theories of LRP need to expand with the theoretical development of library science.［Design/Methodology］ Investigation analysis has been conducted for the literature. ［Findings/Conclusion］Three important periods of LRP theory  have been found since 2005, including the combination of library theory and practice, the development of LRP fundamental theories, and the professionalization of LRP study.［Originality/Value］ It has been pointed out that the LRP theories will expand in three directions, which are fundamental theory research, applied theory research, and research on methods and countermeasure. Moreover, the main theoretical issues of the three directions have been discussed respectively.
