Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] This study aims to add a new theoretical perspective for understanding,interpretation and construction of integrated urban publicreading space. [Design/Methodology] The literature research and case analysis methods were used to analyze the relevance of the theory of scenes from the Chicago School of urban studies to the integrated urban public reading spaces and the applicability of this theory to such spaces. [Findings/Conclusion] The theory of scenes and urban public reading spaces have been coupled in the aspects of urban development, dimensional analysis,facility combination and cultural database. Different combinations of bookstores, cafes, art galleries, museums, gymnasiums, tourist attractions, etc. with urban public reading spaces reflect different dimensions in the theory of scenes. Under the perspective of this theory, city managers should focus on meeting the needs of cultural values of citizens, follow the principles of integration, aesthetics, convenience, comfort, localism and interaction, and plan and construct urban public reading spaces like setting up theatrical scenes. [Originality/Value] The new analytical perspective and theoretical framework emphasize the interaction and correlation between urban public reading spaces, urban development and human development, providing new ideas for the construction of integrated urban public reading spaces.
