Research on the Association Path of the Causal Factors of Mobile Social Media Users' FoMO in the Context of New Media

摘要: [目的/意义]基于因果关系视角,分析移动社交媒体用户错失焦虑(FoMO)的因果要素,探究移动社交媒体用户FoMO理论模型架构和因子关联路径,深入解析移动社交媒体用户FoMO现象的因果要素关联。[研究设计/方法]基于扎根理论,结合线上访谈和线下访谈两种方式收集数据,使用开放式编码、主轴式编码和选择性编码对移动社交媒体用户FoMO因果要素进行分析,利用NVivo 12软件和解释结构模型(ISM)对FoMO因果要素进行整合分析与关系梳理,构建移动社交媒体用户FoMO层级结构模型。[结论/发现] 研究结果表明社交媒体用户FoMO形成机理模型符合S-S-O理论范式,并构建了移动社交媒体用户FoMO的层级关系模型,确定了各级要素内部关联路径间的作用关系。[创新/价值]有助于丰富用户信息行为研究之外用户心理健康层面的探索,是研究内容从“模型架构—因子关联”层面的学理阐述,为社交媒体用户行为研究提供理论与实践指导。

Abstract: [Purpose/Significance]From the perspective of causal relationship, this paper explores the causal factors of mobile social media users' fear of missing out (FoMO), explores the theoretical model architecture and factors’ association path, and deeply analyzes the causal factors’ association of this phenomenon.[Design/Methodology]By using the grounded theory, both online and offline interviews were conducted to collect data. Open coding, spindle coding and selective coding were occupied to explore the causal factors of mobile social media users’ FoMO. Moreover, the NVivo 12 software and explanation structure model (ISM) of FoMO were made use of for an integrating analysis of the causal factors and their relationship, as well as the development of mobile social media users’ FoMO hierarchical structure model.[Findings/Conclusion]The results show that the FoMO formation mechanism model of social media users conforms to the S-S-O theoretical paradigm, and the hierarchical relationship model of mobile social media users' FoMO has been built. Besides, the functional relationship between the internal association path of elements at all levels has been discovered and analyzed in depth.[Originality/Value]This research is helpful to enrich the exploration of users’ mental health beyond the study of user information behavior. It is an academic explanation at the level of model architecture and factors’ correlation, which could provide theoretical and practical guidance for the study of social media users’ behavior.
