Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] By explaining why, what and how to construct the discipline system of library science with Chinese characteristics, this paper aims to  clarify the overall direction and specific measures for the development of the specialty of library science in China in the future. [Design/Methodology] Through a literature review and network investigation, using the methods of induction and deduction,this paper systematically sorts out the basic connotation, practical opportunity, internal demand, theoretical basis and innovation direction of the discipline system of library science with Chinese characteristics, and further analyzes the construction path of the discipline system of library science with Chinese character. [Findings/Conclusion] Findings reveal that the essence of the discipline system of library science with Chinese characteristics is China's independent knowledge system of library science .To realize the creative transformation and inheritance of the theory and practice of library science in China,we should construct the discipline system of library science based on the research results of the existing library science discipline system in China, consider the development practice opportunities, internal demand and combine the emerging themes of policy deployment, theoretical research and industry practice.We should also reasonably introduce the advanced achievements from abroad, and construct the discipline system of library science with Chinese characteristics with scientific ideas. [Originality/Value] This paper clarifies the core of the discipline system of library science with Chinese characteristics, expands its connotation, boundaries and stimulates the vigor and viability of the development of the discipline of library science in China.
