A Comparative Study of Users’ Tagging Behaviors in Libraries and Book Sharing Websites

  

Abstract:

Tagging, commenting and rating books have become new services on Web 2.0. This paper surveys the book tagging services in online book sharing sites as well as in public libraries and academic libraries in China, and compares their book tagging functions. Using real log data from Wuhan University Library and Douban as two cases, it compares users’ tagging behaviors on the two systems, and proposes suggestions for libraries to improve book tagging services.
