北美iSchools信息构建课程体系研究

An Analysis of Information Architecture Courses in North American iSchools

摘要:

本研究通过访问12所iSchools联盟北美地区成员开设的17门信息构建相关课程网站搜集到它们的教学大纲并对其进行内容分析,归纳总结出这些课程在基本信息、教学目标与内容、教材使用以及教学手段等方面的特征,基于分析结果讨论了信息构建与相关课程的关系、信息构建课程体系建设的成果与问题以及信息构建课程对学生个人发展的意义,对国内信息构建课程的开设提供了一定启示:信息构建课程应与用户体验设计课程区分开来并设置先导课程;引入更多的领域内优秀图书作为教材,在现有课程体系中增加社会信息构建与移动信息构建相关内容;针对本科生和研究生分别注重实践工作能力和学术研究能力的培养。

Abstract:

This study investigated the course systems of 17 Information Architecture (IA) courses provided by 12 iSchools in North American based on a content analysis of their syllabuses available on the Web. The characteristics of the IA courses were summarized according to their basic information, teaching goals and topics, textbooks, and teaching methods. The results led to the reflection on the relationships between IA and relevant courses, course development status quo, and the influences of IA courses on students’ academic and professional career, which further provided some insight into the development of IA courses in China. It is suggested that IA courses should be separated from User Experience Design courses and prerequisite courses need to be provided. More classic books in the field of IA can be introduced as textbooks, and such topics as mobile IA and social IA added to the current course system. Undergraduate and graduate level courses should give importance to students’ abilities to conduct practical design and academic research respectively.
