Abstract:

The papers of authoritative academic conference are reflections of hot spots and trends towards a certain subject area. The 79th ASIS&T annual meeting papers, which consists of 18 themes, are analyzed and reviewed in 8 areas which are included information organization and retrieval, information behavior, information users, information services, information management, informetrics, information technology, information and society. The comprehensive review of the papers can not only provide a guide for the current development trends of information science, but also provide reference for the scholars in the field of Chinese LIS. It finds that the current information science research presents the following characteristics: Quantitative research methods centered on user needs and real world data are the mainstream research methods; Information organization and retrieval are targeting at relevance retrieval and reconstruction of nontext objects; Research of information behavior is transposed from the individual level to the group level; Information user study extends to all the information perception situations of community, reading, games and so on; Information services focus on inclusive support; Data reuse and data curation have become the focus of information management research; The object of informatrics goes deep into the knowledge elements of the literature; Information technology is concerned with text management analysis and interactive intelligent technology developed for digital humanities; Information science research is more prominent in the role of government, society, language and culture, etc.
