Innovative Path of Urban Study Construction from the Perspective of "the Nearby": A Case Study of Wuhan City

Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] This paper focuses on the practice of urban study construction from the perspective of "the Nearby", and proposes the suggestions of urban study construction considered users' needs, so as to contribute to the sustainable development of urban study. [Design/Methodology] We introduce the concept of "the Nearby" proposed by anthropologist Xiang Biao, summarize the challenges of urban cultural life, put forward the user needs in the construction of urban study, and find innovative paths for urban study in Wuhan. [Findings/Conclusion] The construction of urban study should prioritize the users' requirements for physical space's easily perceived, cultural space's inclusiveness and community space's engagement. This can be achieved by establishing distinctive themes urban study to enhance the space easy to be recognized, constructing interactive activities scenario to enhance immersive experience, building interest community to foster user loyalty, and absorbing social forces to leverage various resource inputs for the sustainable development. [Originality /Value] This paper introduces the sociological concept of "the Nearby" into the library circle. From the perspective of the user needs, it provides suggestions for the construction of urban study by taking Wuhan's innovative practice as an example.
