Abstract:

This study summarized the development of evaluations on reading promotion activities for infants and toddles and summer reading programs in international public libraries, and analyzed typical cases, evaluation subjects and methods, measure indexes, and relevant findings. Study indicated that, special emphasis was put on long-term impact studies of reading promotion programs in developed countries. Impact studies were generally conducted cooperatively by scholars from children education, library and information science and consultant company. Experimental methods, such as pre-test and post-test on reading performance of school-age children; survey, focus group and interviews on children, parents, and librarians; online self-reporting survey by libraries and statistics database were heavily used as methodology. Multiple indicators, including library input and outputs, outcomes and impact indicators were used as measurement indexes.
